Fireground Safety Recommendation
WeΒ do not recommend wearing your radio strap over your turnout coat.
Wearing it over your coat can:
β’ Create an entanglement hazard
β’ Increase wear on the strap
β’ Damage your radio
For proper use:
Wear the strapΒ under your turnout coatΒ with the radio hanging over bunker pants. Your coat will shed water away from the radio while still allowing access to controls.
Run theΒ collar mic through the neck of the coatΒ for easy communication access.
Post-Fire Decontamination
All Fully Involved Leatherworks products are sealed to help prevent the absorption of contaminants and particulates.
If your equipment enters theΒ IDLH, we recommend the following cleaning procedure:
-
Rinse with copious amounts of water to remove large particulates
-
Use a soft bristle brush if needed
-
For deeper cleaning use a mild detergent such as:
β’ Dawn
β’ Joy
β’ Car wash soap
-
Rinse thoroughly and allow toΒ air dry out of direct sunlight
DoΒ not place leather equipment in an extractor or dryer.
These recommendations are based on UL research regarding firefighter PPE contamination and decontamination procedures.
